3 italian women’s unique, talented and sustainable take on bead embroidery
Sophia (Left), Natalie (Middle), and Juliana (Right)
These are the women behind BellaSole.
BellaSole is the brainchild of three Italian-American sisters from Jersey — twins Sophia and Juliana, and their older sister Natalie. The brand officially launched in May of 2024 and was inspired by the girls’ creative spirit, family ties, and love of being in and around the sun and the beach. The name BellaSole [be-lah SO-lay] means “Beautiful Sun: in Italian, which is a nod to their grandmother, who would greet them and leave them with a “Ciao Bellas” every time she saw them.
The girls have completely flipped the script on embroidery—once expected of women as a domestic skill in the Bridgerton era, it is now turning into a business.
What started as a unique top Juliana wanted to wear to a Yankees game soon became a full-blown jewelry and embroidery business. From their necklaces to hand-embroidered tops, BellaSole is built on the pillars of family, creativity, and heritage — and their grandma remains the brand’s guiding light.
Mama mia! All about the girls’ influence and inspiration
The sisters say their Italian upbringing shaped both themselves and their brand. “We’re all pretty opinionated,” Juliana jokes. Their grandmother was a powerhouse: a go-getter, the leader of the family, and, in the girls’ eyes, “the coolest woman ever.” From her, they inherited not just style, but strength. Their mom, too, instilled persistence in the girls’ business ventures and lives. “You won’t get what you don’t ask for,” Juliana stated.
When asked about where they get their inspiration for their designs, Juliana informed me that their inspiration comes from every which way. Their work reflects a blend of Italian culture and upbringing as well as the cultural influences from their Puerto Rican and Brazilian friends, their grandmother, their great-grandmother (who was a seamstress!), their travels, and of course, just like all of us, Pinterest. Stars – they’re just like us! (If you don’t get that reference, I’ll be upset.)
How the Girls Keep the Wheels Turning
The dynamic between the three sisters adds a spirited chaos to their workflow— balanced by efficiency and productivity. “We each have our strong suits,” Juliana explains. While each of them helps out with the embroidery, Natalie gets most of it done because she is the fastest. The twins take care of the marketing and social media, with Sophia being the website creator as well.
Talking Sustainability
The girls and I discussed Shein and the rise of fast fashion. “Enough with the damn microtrends,” Sophia declared. Hear hear, Sophia. I’m right there with you. The fast fashion cycle, where trends fade before the tags even come off, has no place in the BellaSole lifestyle.
The girls take a thoughtful and intentional approach to their products. Their pieces are made-to-order, which not only minimizes waste, it makes each customer’s order extra special. When they first started BellaSole, the girls sourced beads from GoodWill’s online site, bidding on big packages of beads. Now, they source high-quality beads through trips to New York’s Garment District. While their current tanks are from Target (Universal Threads, 100% cotton), they hope to switch to a more sustainable option in the future.
“A lot of companies get excited about getting bigger so they can use cheaper quality items, but I’m excited to get bigger so we can spend more money on higher quality products,” says Juliana. The girls even hope to offer custom embroidery on pieces customers already own, giving beloved clothes a second life and avoiding waste altogether. That’s what I'm talking about.
The bella sole experience
“I want people to feel like they’re opening a birthday present,” Sophia says of receiving a BellaSole package. For the sisters, it’s about more than just profit or even fashion — it’s about creating moments. You know when you put on a certain outfit, and you're like, this is it. It’s the one." Yes I do Sophia, and it’s a beautiful moment.
They’ve not only connected with people across the country in Texas, but across the world in Dubai, Spain, and the Philippines. They’ve also found support in other women-owned businesses. Though the girls’ reach is already impressive, they dream of becoming even bigger in the coming months, with plans of reaching out to influencers to further their exposure, as well as using their brand as a platform to help out. “I want to be able to do good for other people,” Sophia says.
WHo is your dream client?
“Our grandma,” the girls agree. “Anyone loud, boisterous, and doesn’t care too much about what anyone thinks and just wants to experience life.”
